Job title: Sound Designer / Producer

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Purpose:

The Sound Producer/ Designer responsibility is to manage and oversea sound and audio recordings across all live, field and recorded programmes, working closely with operation engineers, producers and the production management to ensure the quality of audio output across Live, field and recorded productions is efficient and consistent.

A core element of the role will be to create, implement and mix audio content into the Live and recorded programme, using 3rd party software and our in-house tools, ensuring that the resulting sounds are up to AAA standards in quality, creativity and optimization.

Primary Tasks:

  • Manage and oversee the live audio, and sound recording within the studio across all live and recorded programming
  • Responsible for creating sound effects using techniques, for location/studio recording
  • Responsible for reporting all sound issues to the Broadcast Engineers;
  • Assisting with the maintenance of sound equipment (desk, mic's etc.) as necessary.
  • Identifying the sound requirements for each programme.
  • Making recommendations with respect to Sound for ENG/deployments
  • Developing and standardizing the optimum Sound Configurations using the systems and installations in place and in close collaboration with Operation Engineers and overall broadcast workflow.
  • Ensuring consistency of Audio quality output across LIVE and recorded productions
  • Advising on best setups and configurations for external location productions
  • Hands on experience in sound design (both digital and Analogue), Music composition and Production.
  •  Work and collaborate with external audio vendors as needs arise
  • Supervising, training and providing all necessary support to freelance Audio Operators and Junior Audio staff.
  • Set high standards in your work and help mentor junior members of the team. 

Essential Skills:

  • Proven track record of high quality sound design, showing creative flair
  • Understanding of broadcast technical standards.
  • Working with engineering departments in the provision and maintenance of innovative and professional sound applications and facilities.
  • Analytical skills enabling the ability to assess News/Programme’s needs, and working collaboratively to propose technical and workflow solutions.
  • Possessing good organization, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • In-depth understanding of Lawo desk.
  • Able to troubleshoot & identify issues with the Lawo desk, which can be reported to the Engineering team.
  • Familiar with Ofcom guidelines with respect to Audio & RF.
  • Strong experience in Live mixing, Studio and Field Recording.
  • Excellent communication & time management skills.
  • Excellent written & spoken English.
  • Proficient level of written & spoken Arabic language.
  • Demonstrable sound design skills

Requirements:

  • Degree or similar industry qualification in Audio Technology related field
  • Industry experience as a Sound Designer/Producer within a post-production environment
  • Proficient level user for Mac and Windows operating systems.
  • Pro Tools 9, or above experience to advanced level, Logic Pro X , Ableton Live and Reason
  • 5 years’ experience in a live audio production / music environment.
  • International travel may be required as part of the role
