Job Title: Executive Producer

Reporting To: Output Editor

Department/Division: Output – News Department                                                                                        

Main Purpose/Job Summary:

This is a senior editorial role for a highly experienced broadcast journalist with substantial expertise in live and developing news – and an ambitious approach to the 24/7 news coverage. You will be the leading journalist of all teams in the newsroom, taking responsibility for implementing agendas, guaranteeing a high standards output of the newsroom on all levels. You will be the main point of reference in all editorial matters, making sure that all resources in Input and Output are adequately utilized. You will be the one tasked with monitoring and evaluating the input and output teams’ adherence to editorial standards, punctuality and good practice.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Chairs daily editorial and planning meetings.
  • Guides and leads Input and Output teams to guarantee a dynamic coverage and treatment of all relevant news developments and breaking news 
  • Be responsible for the overall accuracy and quality for Client’s newsroom live output
  • Supervising the process of reporters and journalists scripts’ editing and make interventions whenever necessary
  • Supervises headlines selection processes with Senior Producers and Producers
  • Establishes efficient workflows
  • Authorizes going into breaking news coverage after consultation with the Output Editor or Head of News
  • Take a leading role in further development of the News  department strategic plans and aspirations
  • Monitors live bulletins and provide immediate feedback
  • Provide ideas and suggestions for programmes, stories
  • Lead coverage of major events with the ability to build and execute running orders in the gallery 
  • Scrutinize all bulletins and news items before being executed on air
  • Deputise for Input/Output Editors in their absence as required
  • Ensures producers, senior producers, presenters, reporters and production staff are fully briefed
  • Supervise the news ticker team to guarantee that the ticker is always accurate and updated
  • Brief presenters on angles on discussion and treatments of complex news stories
  • Pre-approve all breaking news CG’s
  • Coordinate with Editors to set priorities and allocate relevant resource.
  • Write, translate and adapt items, news stories and to edit packages at the desktop.
  • To work with technical systems and manage a range of video, audio and digital equipment and other technology to research, write, assemble, edit and deliver news items to an exceptional high standard whilst in the appropriate medium
  • Sound gallery managing skills and ability to run and execute live news shows and coverages when required
  • Promote and encourage team work and collaboration
  • Give feedback on contributors pre and post interviews
  • Approves guests requested by producers and senior producers from interview desk 
  • Occasional deployment in the field
  • Guarantees the delivery and smooth flow of handovers between Producers, Senior Producers and EP’s
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Essential Required Skill Set & Experience:

  • Substantial experience of live broadcast journalism at a senior level, with expertise in breaking and developing news, appropriate production skills and proven editorial judgement.
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills.
  • Proven strategic, conceptual and analytical skills including a solid understanding of Journalistic and Editorial knowledge.
  • Leadership orientated and able to coach, instruct and motivate
  • Sound knowledge of relevant health and safety guidelines and legislation.
  • Approachable manner that encourages positive interaction with others
  • Able to travel internationally when required
  • Ability to demonstrate a courteous, professional work ethic

Desirable Required Skill Set & Experience:

10+ years of Broadcast Journalism at a senior level including live television and all areas of production

Education/Qualification

Educated to degree level or equivalent, a Master’s Degree an advantage
